UK students are more likely to be able to repay the loan in full than US students, however, with rates of about 25% compared to US students of about 14%.
The average rate of UKPPS repayment is about 10% for Stafford loans and about 12% for other types of loans.
The average loan repayment for UK students is about $7,400, compared to $8,100 for US students and about $10,300 for British students.
The UK has one of the highest interest rates in the world, with the average interest rate in the United States, Canada, Germany and Australia at between 3.7% and 5%.
The average interest rates for the UK are also higher than in Australia and Germany, where the average rate is 3.6%.
The UK is one of four countries in the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) with rates at least 30% below the US average rate, according the Financial Times.
The other countries with interest rates above 30% are: France, the Netherlands, Italy and the UK.
